SUNY Oneonta is a great campus. I don’t have many complaints. However there's some things that kind of bug me. Here’s a few. There’s no football team. This kills me. There’s nothing better than some skin paint to skin paint love at a college football game. The reason why we don’t have a football team is that there is a significantly higher percentage of females here at Oneonta, so the budget wouldn’t allow so much money to go to a male sport. I would love an SUNY Oneonta football team. I know I would end up following the quarterback around campus leaving him love notes on his desks.
When I need to write a paper in the library but there are no computers available because there’s 25 different girls just gawking at dress designs for their fashion class. Now I respect fashion majors (especially that sexy fashion show, wakka wakka) But 2am is no time to get in a fight over plaid when i'm trying to study for one of those scantron tests.
That Oneonta is a dry campus. What a giant joke. You put 5,000 college kids in the middle of nowhere and tell them they must remain sober at all times. Not gonna happen. The fact is that students are never going to stop drinking in their dorm rooms. Why not embrace what is already everywhere. SUNY Oneonta is as dry as it’s weather.
There’s no Starbucks. This is really a city issue, but still really sucks. As much as I hate all Starbuck employees, I really love their coffee. I know Jazzman’s isn’t an awful substitute, but it doesn’t match up to Starbuck’s coffee in my opinion. I ussually end up buying the coffee from Hess that taste mostly like a cat urinated in a coffee machine, and then someone switched the "on" button.
That Yella's Pizza taste like Stale Microwaved Digiorno. I am never surprised by the low quality of this chewy doughed yucky mouth pizza. (I can't stop paying 3.75 a slice for it though, yuk yuk yuk)

- football is dumb. we DO have worth-while sports teams though. go see a soccer, lacrosse, or rugby game.
ReplyDelete- the library isn't even open at 2am. not saying it's the best place to write a paper anyhow - i do get what your saying, but you're probably letting it get to you a bit too much.
- i'm glad we're technically a dry campus. think of how much drinking occurs on campus anyhow.. now think of how that would be without the worry of being caught. it would be a complete chaotic mess.
- you obviously don't love coffee if you're breaking down because there's no starbucks. there are too many of those in the world already. if you really appreciate your coffee you would take the time to find the local "mom and pop" joints [which are 100X better than starbucks anyhow]
- and really? you're complaining about yellas? if you don't like it, don't eat it. pretty simple. and in the same thought as the coffee: try going to a real pizzeria.
Why don't you like Starbucks employees?
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of offended. I'm proud that I work there and am always nice to the customers.
how long have you been here? Yella's does suck, but it used to be Sbarros, that was decent, but Sodexho (which takes care of our ::delicious:: dining hall contracts owns as well) decided it couldn't have any competition, so out with Sbarros and in with Sodexho-owned Yellas. It also owns Jazzmans.
ReplyDeleteI'm a senior, and when the comp lab was on the second floor i NEVER remember it being as packed as it is now. It's impossible to get in there at almost any time of day..(and since i no longer live on campus, i can't use in-dorm labs.) And I agree, the majority of people in there are checking their facebooks and looking at fashion. and yes, I DO have a vendetta against fashion majors, with maybe two exceptions -- i hate them. not ashamed to admit it.
I don't personally drink coffee, but wish a starbucks would come in just so jazzmans would lose business. am i vindictive? maybe. plus, its a TWO COLLEGE TOWN. they could have a lucrative market. they are in rinkydink podunk towns but not here.
I don't mind that it's a dry campus. I live off campus now so it doesn't matter, and if you REALLY want to drink you can just go downtown. There's really no sense in complaining about it.
At least the dorms aren't smoking anymore!! Some of the dorms used to be smokeer friendly, and that would kill me. I'm allergic!
good article
ReplyDeletewish there was a football team for sure. that would have changed my college life in some fashion.
i've literally never had a problem getting a computer in the library, so i found that funny.
there's enough alcoholics or future alcoholics at this school, no need to start increasing that amount by openly allowing it. plus, the little fear was sort of thrilling when i lived on campus.
are we really bitching about coffee? gotta love america
ditto for yellas. but it does typically suck.

ReplyDeleteAnyone who argues this should stay a dry campus seems quick to forget there are plenty of wet campuses out there that somehow get by....
ReplyDeleteOh and that Oneonta survived as a wet campus for what was it? Oh yeah, 100 years.
The food just sucks. I am SO sick of it!
ReplyDelete"there is no football team"
ReplyDeleteHow about you follow a different team! There is not enough funding for a football team. Quit bitching and appreciate what we already have.
I believe that if we are of age, why not be able to have alcohol on campus? Or at the very least, make Higgins a wet building because it is ridiculous that the JUNIORS and SENIORS who live there and who are of age cannot have alcohol. I don't believe the campus would turn into a chaotic mess if Higgins was made wet, if anyone had to worry about parties being thrown and what not- that's what RAs are there for, to enforce noise policies. But there are many SUNY colleges (off the top of my head, Cortland and New Paltz) who have wet campuses.
