Is this an egregious grammatical error? Or is there nothing wrong with sending that note to the entire student body? We need an English professor down here, stat! Can anyone offer their insight?

There is less/are less? Both could be correct.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? There is an article on Pwneonta about the misuse of is/are? Most of the students on this campus would make the same mistake.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think their ain't no problem with that they're sentence.
ReplyDeleteBut in all seriousness. It sounds fine to me.
it's definitely wrong (ie: the correct use is with the word 'are')
ReplyDeletethe only excuse, if there is to be one, is that it was a relatively informal email. otherwise, it should not be shrugged off so easily (or is at least sad that you think it sounds ok). Americans need to stop butchering the English language.
i take that back. i thought the "is" was in a different place when i wrote the first response. after seeing the email again, it seems to be acceptable. i'm obviously not an english major either. i hope you get a kick out of my mistaken and hasty judgment :-P
