A Small Note

You know, I am often, fairly or unfairly, called out by friends and family for having gloomy and pessimistic outlooks on a great many things. However, occasionally something so big and so momentous happens that I get this great feeling that "Wow if this went right..then maybe just about anything can go right.."

The last time I had this great feeling was after the New York Giants won the Super Bowl back in February. I felt after that fantastic victory as if nothing could ever go wrong again. That very night I had a friend tell me that I sounded "so optimistic!" and for months afterward I would shrug things off and say "Meh, so what, the Giants won the fucking Super Bowl."

Last night was another one of those moments. The Election of a dude named Barack Obama to the Presidency of the Untied States truly makes me feel as if anything is possible in this country again. Up until last night for our generation the defining moment in History was 9/11. Now finally we have a much happier defining moment-->the election of the first African American President of the United States, less than 150 years after the Emancipation Proclomation. I'm fairly certain we will all remember exactly where we were when they called this election for Obama.

For his entire campaign, Obama has told the country that "Yes We Can," and last night "Yes We Did." But now that the campaign is over, all of us have to look to the future and all of the challenges these next few years(For us college students, critical years..) will bring and keep thinking "Yes We Can."

  3. I can deal with Obama winning, but good God, stop with the "Yes, We Can" line.

Yes, We Can win an election that the polls have had going our way for over a year!

Yes, We Can defeat a crippled GOP!

Yes, We Can win the election, just like everybody expected!
