Here's the lowdown: I am so so tired of having to closet my love of certain groups/bands/artists because of fear of being lame. Let's look at a few examples. Here is the cover of an album called "Night Falls over Kortedala" by a Swede named Jens Lekman who I have yet to meet another Male fan of.
That's right that's a picture of him getting his haircut by some clouds with a really freakin' weird look on his face. Yeah sure it may be outwardly "lame" and yeah maybe he does make cute-sy Indie-Pop songs with names like "Sipping on the Sweet Nectar". So?! He fucking rules. I bet Jens could beat some macho metal jerk in a boxing match.
Or even forget Jens for a second. What about these lovely ladies? That's right, I love The Pipettes. There. I said it. What's that? Oh yes, they are dancing choreographed moves in matching polka-dot dresses. Still waaaay more Punk than these jerk-offs.
On that note, I'm going to leave you this weekend with a Cute-sy music video by one of my favorite new bands. Learn to look past superficiality and you may just find yourself liking some "lame" music too.
Don't be ashamed man, I love Jens and a lot of music like that and I'm a guy so there you go you (haven't really) met another male fan.
ReplyDeletei am a girl, and i think it's awesome that you love "lame" music.
ReplyDeleteif the pipettes ever come within a thousand miles of oneonta, want to road trip?

It's ok Jesse I like Jens too. He's kind of like a one man Belle and Sebastian.
