So by now I'm sure all of us are aware of the school's big campaign this year to make this campus more "Green." Ya know, Eco-Friendly. So far they've ditched using trays in the dining halls, gotten better napkin dispensers, and also offer a 10% discount to anyone who buys coffee or coffee-esque drinks with their Green Dragon mugs. Among other things. (Full layout of their plan HERE)I'm interested in finding out how this plan is going so far. How green are you guys being? Still taking a plastic bag at Mills to hold the Ben & Jerry's you could carry yourself? I am however most interested in how the use of the Green Dragon travel mugs is going.
Personally I think the mugs are a disaster. I've been using them a lot since I usually hit up Jazzman's once or twice a day, but every use is an exercise in frustration. The god damned top never stays on right and there's always a leak. Aside from the problems I have with the mugs' engineering I also don't feel like a lot of people are using them. C'mon folks, everyone living on campus got one of these suckers for free, and even though they're a bit faulty it's still worth using them!
As soon as I figure out how, I'm going to get a poll up where you can tell me if you've been using the mug or not, and how much. In the meantime tell me what you're doing to attempt to be a little greener!
i don't drink any hot drinks, so i don't use the mug at all. i agree its pretty useless because it isn't made correctly.
ReplyDeleteYea those mugs are terrible, but no use in complaining about it. I just spent $8 on a good one.. maybe you guys should do the same
ReplyDeleteGood point. However, it begs the question. Will we still get 10% off if we use a different mug?
ReplyDeleteThough it won't fit in most dorm refrigerators, getting a Brita water filtering container is a pretty awesome idea. My apartment-mate and I have one and I haven't bought any bottled water yet, instead opting to refill my own bottle. I know you can argue that the filters in themselves are wasteful since you have to throw them out after prolonged use, and they can be a bit pricey. But, it IS cheaper than buying bottled water (especially if you're the person who buys each bottle at Mills for $2 a pop) and you don't feel so much guilt over tossing out the plastic bottles every day.
ReplyDeleteI did use my mug in the beginning, but since I forgot to clean it out after using it for a few days, it got a bit...fuzzy. I've got my own mug that I use a whole lot more often, and it doesn't leak on me.
ReplyDeleteactually I didn't get one. If I had received one I would definitely use it!
