WONYPalooza

And how could I forget!!  This Saturday, April 17th, from 7PM-11PM at the Fox is WONYPalooza!  Here's the shpiel from Facebook:

WONYPalooza 2010 @ The Fox
7pm-11pm

Cost: $3 at the door.

The money is being donated to two charities this year. With most likely a 60/40 split
1. Haitian Heroes: The website is www.haitianheroes.org. The organization has just started 100 homes in 100 days, a campaign to rebuild 100 homes 100 days from the actual quake. There are two ways to pay. Online donations, duh, but since we will be sending in a check, the check is made out to H.E.R.O. at H.E.R.O., 25 Pepperidge Trail, Old Saybrook, CT 06475.

2. Sean Thatcher Foundation: Was a student of Oneonta who last summer became paralyzed in a swimming accident. The money goes to his family and their medical expenses.

I hope you will come out and listen to the bands while supporting two good causes.

Bands:
The Dooleys

Buried Life
Gravia
Sword of Truth

It's really cheap to support 4 talented local bands, and it's at the Fox.   What's better than that!

Welcome Back, yet again, and a New Poll!

Hello all!  Welcome back for the home stretch of the year!  I hope everyone had a great break, but we're all back, so that means so am I.  Driving back up to school today had me thinking about our lovely town for 8 months a year, Oneonta.  As we all know, the times are a-changing and slowly but surely, Oneonta is updating.  We have great stores and restaurants like Green Toad Bookstore, Fiesta Mexican Grill, and Green Earth, that are relatively new or seem it.  But, there's still Bresee's empty space, still a closed toy store near the OST, and still plenty of vacant places that could be filled!  I guess what I'm essentially asking: What does the town of Oneonta need?  Vote on our poll (last week's was close with 17 votes overall, 4 of them going to Latte Lounge...my personal favorite).

Beach Fossils in Oneonta

As reported a few weeks ago via our Twitter, indie up-and-comers Beach Fossils are invading Oneonta April 30th at 7pm.  Like last time, tickets are a mere 5 bucks if you're a student.  There are no openers as of yet (that I know of), but Beach Fossils is well-worth the 5 bucks.  I'll see you at the Armory (4 Academy St)!

Also, be on the lookout for delicious bake sales coming up to support WONY Indie so they can pay the band and get more great bands in the future!

Pwneona Music's Issues

There have been no updates to our favorite music blog, Pwneonta Music, in several weeks.  That's because we were recently emailed by Blogger saying we violated copyright laws and were infringing on copyrighting.  First off, that's so cool!  Someone reads our music site!!  Second, that sucks, because we can't post mp3s for people to stream before decided to buy the albums or see them live or discover their new favorite bands.  I'm currently trying to find away around it, but I don't think I can.  Until then, Pwneonta Music will no longer feature mp3s; I really don't want to get shut down.  But hey, we're not the only site!  Check out this article about other awesome blogs to feel the wrath of Google's Blogger.
