This Weeks Poll: Where to Get Coffee?

After a surprising amount of votes on last weeks poll (yes, 15 is surprising because I didn't realize anyone still read this...keep it up!), we discovered that many people love gamboling along the quad or in town with this wonderful weather.  But, when one poll ends, another begins!  That being said, where is your favorite place to get coffee in Oneonta?  My favorite is Latte Lounge, so what's yours?

The Best Spot in Oneonta: Latte Lounge

I woke up this morning starving, as many often do.  But instead of lumbering over to Wilsbach for their oh-so delectable and delicious selection (sarcasm, ahh), I took a trip over to one of my favorite places in Oneonta, Latte Lounge.  Since opening in late 2003, Latte Lounge has been a place that consistently pumps out great coffee, great food, and great service.  I go their almost weekly and have yet to be disappointed.  Today, I picked up a Cookies-and-Cream iced coffee and a veggie burger with a bunch of different veggies on their cracked-wheat bread.  Like I say, I've never been disappointed.  Located at the heart of Main Street (196 Main...right next to Subway), Latte Lounge is opened Mon-Sat 6AM-5PM and Sun 7AM-5PM.

The House voted 219-212 in favor of health care reform.
Fuck. Yea.

Art and Scope Presents: A Clockwork Orange

This Tuesday, March 23rd, 7:00PM, at the Red Dragon Theater, Art and Scope is showing A Clockwork Orange.  The movie will be hosted by the smartest man I know, Dr. Richard Lee of the English Dept.  It's free to go, and it's one of the best movies ever made.  Totally worth going to!

Overheards are back!

When I first started reading and writing for this site, one of my favorite parts was the Overheard in Oneonta section.  It's coming back.  Submit yours today.

The Best Spot in Oneonta: The Vault

I've decided to start writing a weekly (or monthly or bi-monthly, whatever it's my article, don't judge) recommendation of places in Oneonta that don't get enough love and should be checked out.

This week's installment is dedicated to The Vault.  If you're looking for a used-something, this is your place to go.  They have a variety of old VHS's, DVD's, comic books, regular books, toys, and a HUGE collection of old records at great prices.  They might have the biggest selection of records in Oneonta.  I've also been told they will specially order your vinyl needs, and it'll only take a week or so.  The people that work there are incredibly friendly and always offer their help.  Today, I bought a couple of Simon and Garfunkel records, Huey Lewis and the News- Sports, and The Police- Ghost in the Machine for only 20 bucks, and they are in great condition.  The Vault is located at 300 Main Street, right across from Mama Nina's.  Their hours are posted in this wonderful picture of their hours:

Spring, Glorious Spring!

Spring is finally here, and the weather is just delightful!  After months of asking do you Twitter, we have a new poll up: What's your favorite part of the warm weather?  Vote on the side, and tell us why here!

Where's the State Times?

As many of you may have noticed, there was no new State Times this week.  Shrouded in a cloud of mystery and rumors, truth peaks through.  Rumors that the paper ran out of money are not entirely true.  Although I am still unclear of the details, something happened with the advertisement, but it seems things are taken care of.  A close source told me that it will be back next week, with some slight renovations.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patty's Day, all!  I hope everyone has fun festivities planned for the educational day where we all learn a bit more about St. Patrick.  Many bars opened at 8 AM today, and I hope you're taking advantage of it.  Pictures will be updated throughout the day (aka, tonight when I have the chance to go out).  Enjoy the Kegs-n-Eggs!  If you have any fun pictures or fun stories from the night's festivities, post them in the replies.

fun. playing in Oneonta

For those who haven't heard of fun., they are an indie pop group formed from members of The Format and Steel Train.  Their debut album, Aim and Ignite, came out last year, and it is chock full of bop-your-head tunes.  The reason I am sharing this pearl with y'all is, because of their Myspace, fun. are headlining a show May 1st.  I'm incredibly excited about this, and, although no other bands are listed, I'm sure it'll be a good old time.

UPDATE:
According to Good Old War's myspace:

SeenUnseen- What's it like?

Recently on 77 Main Street, a local art venue opened called Seen Unseen.  Now, I have yet to go there.  I passed it once walking to the Armory, but I had not been inside.  According to the Facebook page, Seen Unseen is "providing a venue/forum for wherever you are on your journey."  It's a little corny sounding, but it seems like a great idea.  I remember reading in State Times article how the owner just wants to have a place for local artists to showcase their work; it's a place for local musicians to perform and get their name out across Oneonta.  Has anybody gone there yet?  What is it like?  If I wind up going this weekend, I will be sure to let my lovely readers know what it is like. Post your thoughts!
